The Great American Bake Sale
The Cambridge School of Culinary Arts hosted The Great American Bake Sale on Sunday, December 18, 2005. The event raised over $3500.00 dollars for Share Our Strength.
The Great American Bake Sale (www.greatamericanbakesale.org) was introduced in 2003 by PARADE Magazine and Share Our Strength (www.strength.org). More than one million Americans have taken part, helping to raise more than $2.7 million to fight childhood hunger in the U.S. From funds raised, Share Our Strength awards grants to innovative nonprofits fighting childhood hunger across the country.
The School's bake sale showcased sweet and
savory treats baked by the students and chef/instructors. Other items included baked donations from the School's alumni. The event featured a silent auction
with items donated by area restaurants, businesses, and the School's vendors. In
addition, Starbucks Coffee, 711 Somerville Ave., donated coffee for the event
and Adina Juices offered juice samples and bottles for sale. This was
the first year that The Cambridge School of Culinary Arts had hosted The Great
American Bake Sale.
Items for sale included Gingerbread Bird Houses, Büche de Noel, Cheesecake, Pies,
Gingerbread cookies, Coconut Macaroons, Tea Cakes, Sourdough Bread, Rye Bread,
Rosemary Bread, Four Lilly Focaccia, Panettone, Home-made Crackers, Herbed Goat
Cheese, Quiche Lorraine, Cookies, Truffles, Caramels, Turtles, Mahogany Toffee,
Home-made Marshmallows, Lemon Squares, Congo Bars, Kahlua Brownies, Apple
Streusel Coffee Cake, Tarts, plus more. Approximately 400 people attended the
bake sale. The event was featured during the 6PM news on channel WCVB, the local
ABC affiliate.
Money raised will be donated to Share Our Strength, a leading anti-hunger organization, to ensure that America's most vulnerable children - those living in poverty at the risk of hunger - get the regular meals they need to grow, learn, and thrive.
