The CSCA Offers First-Ever Food Writing Workshop through the Recreational Program
[May 11, 2012] Join Susan G. Purdy, award-winning cookbook author, culinary journalist, and CSCA seminar instructor, for a five-day interactive adventure through the world of food writing and publishing. Explore all types of food writing from cookbooks and reviews, to menus, memoirs, and magazine articles. Plus, learn writing skills needed for the internet and blogs.
Through lectures, practical examples from the 'real' world of publishing, and hands-on individual and group exercises, students will practice writing in different styles for various purposes. Susan will also discuss how to work with agents, editors, publishers, and with contracts.
There will be short- and long-exercise assignments both in class and at home. Plus, there will be time for private consultation with Purdy.
Working lunches will let students discover new local eateries and apply those findings in class through reviews and menu analysis. By the end of the week, students will have an overview of the food writing field and how to approach writing cookbook proposals, pitching ideas to magazines, and understanding the fine points of writing and selling their 'words.'
The Food Writing Workshop is open to all CSCA students on summer break, CSCA alumni, and to the public. Registration is required for the Food Writing Workshop through our class calendar.
