The CSCA Hosts Book Signing for Erin Byers Murray CCP '08 on November 17, 2011
[October 25, 2011] The CSCA welcomes author Erin Byers Murray to its Celebrity Chef Series. Erin is the author of SHUCKED: Life on a New England Oyster Farm. In the book, she chronicles 18 months working on the Island Creek Oyster farm in Duxbury, Massachusetts. The book is "part love letter, part memoir, and part documentary about the world's most famous bivalves."
During Erin's appearance, a member of the Island Creek Oyster team will demonstrate how to shuck oysters while Erin talks about oyster farming as a whole and her experiences specifically. She will also prepare one of the oyster recipes from SHUCKED.
Erin Byers Murray is a Boston area journalist specializing in food and wine writing. In 2009, she left her career as the Boston editor of DailyCandy.com to work as a farm hand for Island Creek Oysters, where she pulled on a pair of waders and got her hands dirty learning the business of bivalves. SHUCKED: Life on a New England Oyster Farm chronicles her year-and-a-half long experience on the farm from oyster seed to the fine dining tables where Island Creeks are served. Erin left the farm in 2010 to return to a writing career and today her work can be found in Food & Wine, Boston Magazine, Edible Boston, and other publications. She graduated from The CSCA's Culinary Certificate Program in 2008.
The cost of the event is $30.00, which includes a copy of SHUCKED: Life on a New England Oyster Farm and oyster samples. Register online at The CSCA's Recreational Calendar, class number 2009.
